Play Music NYC is bringing a fresh burst of energy and perspective to the private lesson scene! Our innovative approach is a fun and fulfilling alternative to traditional methods. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all, so our teachers take the time to determine the best approach for each student. Children and adults will love what they are playing while learning essential skills, excellent technique, and musicianship. In addition, we are honored to be working with some of the best teachers in NYC!

This is the choir you’ve been looking for! Explore a variety of inspiring music (including musical theater, pop, traditional choral, and music from around the world) mixed with healthy vocal training guided by seasoned professionals. Together we create a fun community centered around our love of music! Multiple performance opportunities occur throughout the year. 

Each semester has several weeks of open enrollment. The price of choir remains the same regardless of when you start (we do not offer prorated pricing).

If you would like to try choir for free during our open enrollment, please mention this on your registration form. You may skip the payment section.

You should only register for one performance per child, and only for a time where your teacher is listed. If none of the options work with your schedule, please email us immediately: info@playmusicnyc.com

All performers should arrive 30 min before their performance time to warm up and get comfortable.

All times are subject to slight change.

After we have received your registration form, you will be sent an invoice for the recital. One student is $55. Each sibling is an additional $30. You may invite as many guests as you’d like!

Spring Music Recitals

Sunday, June 12, 11am (online)

Please have guests RSVP by Friday evening. A zoom link will be sent out just before the recital.

To ensure the privacy and safety of our Zoom concert, you must RSVP to attend. Please make sure you RSVP with the email and name you will be using to sign into Zoom, and that the name of your device on Zoom is something we will recognize. We will not let in users we don’t recognize. To learn how to change your name on Zoom click here.

Guests should arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the recital so that we have time to let everyone in before we start.

Singers should arrive 20 minutes prior to the recital time if they’d like to participate in a group warm-up.

You’ll receive an email by the morning of the recital with your Zoom link and password. Please check your spam folder if you don’t see anything.

Go on a new adventure with Maggie every day this week to learn about different instruments and music from around the world!

Acting, music, movies… this class has it all! Taking full advantage of technology, we’ll discover fun ways to record scenes and music in and out of class. At the end of the week we’ll compile it all into a final movie!

SONGWRITING

In this two-hour intensive, learn the fundamentals of melody, harmony, rhythm and writing lyrics. By the end of just one class you will write your own original verse and chorus and learn techniques professional songwriters use to generate new ideas and beat writer’s block!

MUSIC THEORY

Do you ever wonder how and why music works? In this two-hour intensive, learn the fundamentals of music theory and how to start applying them on your instrument, with your voice and in your own compositions!

Learn three famous guitar riffs and tricks to add to your repertoire and enhance your guitar solos with!  

Grades: 3rd - 7th *Recommended for beginner and intermediate guitar players who have practice playing single note melodies with a pick.

Become a triple threat in this class focused on scenes & dances, songs & fun! We'll explore musicals of the past and present in this high-energy, interactive experience. "Anything goes" as we improvise and sing--join us on our journey, "Do not throw away your shot!"

Get ready to create your own original pop, rock, and r&b songs! Students will learn how to create and develop melodies, how to write and complete lyrics, and how to collaborate on full-length songs! No prior musical experience necessary.

Adult Ukulele Class with Hallie

Has your cute little ukulele been sitting in the corner, neglected? Do you want more levity and joy in your life? Well then, join Hallie's adult ukulele class! We will be learning beginner ukulele chords, and proper technique in order to sing and play songs like "Let It Be", "Skinny Love", and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

Prairie Dog Pete Ukulele Class

Come hang out with the ever cool, ever handsome Prairie Dog Pete as he teaches us how to play the ukulele! We will learn how to hold this strange instrument, how to strum, and basic chords to play songs like "Wheels on the Bus", "Hot Cross Buns", and "If You're Happy and you Know It"!

Musical Jeopardy! with Hallie

Put your musical knowledge to the test with a live and interactive game of Musical Jeopardy! How many quarter notes are in a half note? Sing/play a major scale! What is a fermata? Can you beat the master?
